NAPLAN ONLINE 2019
If you have a child in Year 3 or 5 they will be sitting the NAPLAN between 14 May and 24 May. The Victoria Park children sit the tests online, however the Year 3’s still complete the writing test on paper. You can help your child prepare by reassuring them that NAPLAN is just one part of their school program, and by reminding them on the day to simply try their best. Teachers will ensure students are familiar with the types of questions in the tests and will provide appropriate support and guidance. Ensuring students are familiar with using devices, typing on them and navigating through programs are a part of student learning and a requirement of the Australian Curriculum from the first year at school.
Your child will be assessed on the same literacy and numeracy curriculum content, regardless of whether they complete the test online or on paper, results for both formats can be reported on the same NAPLAN assessment scale. To find out more about NAPLAN Online, visit nap.edu.au.
If you have any further questions about NAPLAN, then please don’t hesitate to contact Julie Belohlawek (Deputy Principal).
HARMONY WEEK 18 MARCH TO 22 MARCH
"It is a time to celebrate Australian multiculturalism, and the successful integration of migrants into our community. Australia is one of the most successful multicultural countries in the world and we should celebrate this and work to maintain it. Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values."
Our school will be celebrating Harmony Day on Thursday the 21st March. To celebrate this day, there will be a small parade at 8:50am where students are encouraged to wear orange to symbolise Harmony and spread the message that 'Everyone Belongs'. If you like, you may wear the clothes of your cultural back-ground (not fancy dress or jeans!). If these clothes are not suitable for the rest of the day or for sport, you will need to bring your uniform to change into.
Additionally, to link Harmony Week with the 125th celebration of the school, students are encouraged to bring in a lunch box filled with healthy and traditional food from your background. For example, you might like to fill your lunch with roti and curry. Perhaps you will have sushi and seaweed! My family is from England, so I'm having a Marmite sandwich! Ms Lindhjem will take lots of photographs of 2019 lunch boxes full of cultural foods, and then we can compare our lunches to an 1894 lunch! Remember, school rules still apply and you may not share your lunch with friends - we are simply taking photographs for comparison. Also remember, we are a nut free school so please don't bring nuts!

We thank Victoria Park Swimming Club for providing us with a coach each week and to our P&C who have kindly subsidised the cost of the lane hire, pool entry and coach. A huge thanks also to our wonderful parents who have volunteered to transport our swimmers back to school each week after training. Your time and commitment is very much appreciated.
SOCIAL DANCE YEARS 1-4
Humphrey`s Dance Studio will once again be providing a social dance program for Year 1 – 4 this term. This program has been most successful over a number of years and we are looking forward to another positive outcome this year. It is a wonderful opportunity for the students to learn new dances and to build on their skills from previous sessions while exercising and having fun.
The first session began yesterday Monday 11 February and the lessons will continue each Monday until April 8. The last session on 8 April will comprise of a concert for parents. Further information will be
provided closer to the time.
All students are expected to participate as the lessons are a part of their Physical Education / Arts and will therefore be a part of the student report in Semester One. The total cost for the 8 lessons is $32.80 per student. Payment may be made by Eftpos or cash at the front office or by sending the total amount to your class teacher together with the permission note in a sealed and labelled envelope.
Permission notes and full payment are to be made by this Friday, 15 February 2019. Please note that the option of weekly payments is not available. If you are unable to pay the full amount by 15

It is essential that the green Raphael Park permission notes are returned by this Friday, regardless of the sport your child is participating in.
Walking School Bus Volunteers Needed!
Last year Victoria Park Primary School commenced a Walking School Bus (WSB) service. This service involves two parents walking a designated route to school, collecting children along the way. We are hoping to run the service again this year, however we need the support of parent volunteers to make this possible.
At this stage there is only one route which starts on the corner of State and Gloucester St.
Ideally, we would like to run this service on as many days as possible. We are hopeful this will assist those families who are juggling drop-offs in two locations.
If you are able to commit to walking one morning per week, please send an email to Leanne.Lee@education.wa.edu.au at your earliest convenience.
We are grateful for any support you can offer your school community.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We require volunteers for the following duties to assist in the library:
Covering & repairing books, small group assistance with Year 1 & 2 library classes including using the computers, shelving books, setting up displays.
Please provide your name and details on the volunteer sheet located on top of the library desk. Thank you for your kind assistance.
SCHOOL BANKING
School Banking will be operating in 2019. This is a great fundraiser and encourages valuable saving
habits for the children. Banking will be every Tuesday from 19 of February at 8:35am in the undercover area. Thank you very much to Rachel Shearer for being our banking co-ordinator. The P&C are currently looking for 2 volunteers to help each week. If you are interested please email
president.vicparkpandc@gmail.com
Uniform shop
With over $12,000 work of stock sold through our shop in the last week things have been a bit crazy!! Thank you to the amazing team of volunteers who have helped families with orders. Thank you to the parents for your patience! The uniform shop will be open every Friday from 8:30-9:30am. Parents are welcome to leave an order form at the office during the week. Once the order is filled we can message you to collect from the office. We can now accept credit card payments with a 1.94% surcharge. Do you have second hand uniforms that you would like to donate to the uniform shop? All donations are greatly appreciated. It is a great way of recycling and offers great savings to our school community. All proceeds of second hand item sales go toward P&C fundraising. Donations can be left at the school office or dropped into the shop on Fridays. We are always looking for new volunteers so if you would like to help please email president.vicparkpandc@gmail.con
NEW HATS FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE CHANGED FACTION
There are a number of students who have not collected their new faction hats. Hats can be collected from the undercover area from 8:15 Thursday 14 February.
Icy Poles
Icy pole sales will be each Friday. It is a great P&C fundraiser! $1 each. Sold in the undercover area at recess. If any parents would like to volunteer to help with sales please email
president.vicparkpandc@gmail.com
CYBER SAFETY WORKSHOP – SAVE THE DATE

Farmers MARKET
Our farmers market is turning 5 this Sunday. This is one of our main fundraisers earning $11,347.00 for our P&C. As part of the school commitment to the market we need 4 parent volunteers to help with the children’s craft stall this Sunday. We need 2 parents from 9-10:30am and 2 parents from 10:30am-12pm.
All you need to do is supervise the children while they do a simple craft activity. Everything is supplied.
Throughout the year each year group will be allocated a Sunday. For this Sunday we are asking any parents that are available to help to please email president.vicparkpandc@gmail.com.
